  Behind the scenes

Spring Fashion Week

Façonner le Fils

In second grade, my son was diagnosed with Asperger's. I was warned that high school and therefore life would be very difficult for him considering the high social anxiety and life issues that run along with it. At 16, he was invited to try out for the spring fashion shows in Paris. I took a month off work to take the gamble with him. It was a time for us to reconnect as father and son, and for me to encourage his growth towards manhood, as he painfully faced his fears head on by going on eight to ten castings a day. I documented the entire trip mainly on film with my rangefinder, including each of the waiting rooms, corridors, and stairwells that overflowed with young, international male models--each caught somewhere in the progression between boyhood and manhood.
